AWS Summit Sydney 2014

I attended my first AWS Summit this year in Sydney. It was a free event, so I expected a lot of people there. But I was still surprised by the amount of people staying till the end.

The whole event also felt less like educating people and more like recruiting new customers and selling partner offers. Maybe because I had been working with AWS products for the last two years and had a pretty good idea what it is all about how to effectively use them.
Yet I was somehow disappointed that all but the first session where low on the tech and how on the marketing side.

Werner Vogels Keynote

Possibly it is also my paranoia kicking in. Amazon is becoming VERY big. And as with Google, there is now a second entity that stores all our data, that everyone uses and that no one questions.
As Werner Vogels (the VP/CTO) kept pointing out in his keynotes, it is becoming all about big data and data analyzing. Google already does a great job with that. Now it seems everything else that we don't upload into Google, we now upload into AWS where it is potentially open to them to do with as they please. Has anyone ever read their T&Cs?
